BactoFort®
Biofeed Technology Healthy Villi

The gastrointestinal tract (GIT) maintains a physiological balance that enables the animal to withstand infectious and non-infectious stressors. The objectives of maintaining a balanced and healthy GIT are effective digestion and absorption of feed, the proper structure of the gastrointestinal barrier, the absence of gastrointestinal illness, normal and stable intestinal microbiota and effective immune status.

Livestock is exposed to harmful pathogens like Salmonella, Escherichia coli, Clostridium perfringens and campylobacter. Without healthy microbiota, these pathogens have devastating effects on animal health and performance. In addition, antimicrobial-resistant pathogens may result in treatment failure, leading to economic losses. Resistant bacteria multiply and become the dominant population. As such, they are able to transfer the resistance genes to other bacteria.

The resistant bacteria can be transmitted from animal products to humans. Furthermore, there are also human health concerns about the presence of antimicrobial residues in meat, eggs and other animal products. On the other hand, digestive disorders such as dysbacteriosis result in poor nutrient absorption in the gut leading to impaired FCR and reduced live weight.

Gut health is the foundation of performance and profitability; certain measures should be considered to maintain a healthy gastrointestinal tract and a balanced microbial ecosystem. Among the most important measures are:

  • Effective antibiotic growth promoter alternatives which have the same efficacy to overcome the drawback of microbial resistance and antibiotic residue.
  • Combination of multiple tools to enhance gut health and performance, such as probiotics, prebiotics and digestive enzymes.
  • Effective elements for microbial elimination and modulation of mucosal immunity.
